Virtual Valuation Expo was a remarkable experience. Attendees were still able to meet with experts in the industry and listen to leaders in the field through the screens of their computers. Hosted virtually on October 1-3, we had appraisal professionals networking and building their businesses from the comfort of their own home! Valuation Expo started on Thursday, October 1st with our 3rd Quarter Collateral Risk Network meeting.
Attendees enjoyed sessions that connected them to each other in the appraisal community. Some of these included our Virtual Trade Show Floor, Land Shark Pitches, Buzz Academy Sessions, and our prize Leaderboard. If you missed it, you can still register for the On-Demand access to all of the Buzz Academy courses, the Lenders Live presentations, and so much more. Register here to watch it on demand. Our Trade Show allowed you to network with attendees and exhibitors in their booths. Our Land Shark Pitches were short presentations demonstrating products relevant to appraisers. The Leaderboard added points to your profile for all of the sessions/activities attended – the top ten on the leaderboard all won an amazing prize such as a Smart TV!

At 12:30 pm was the Live Networking Event that was hugely attended – The ACI “High-Five” event. At this event, appraisers were quizzed and shared stories on their craziest appraisals. Questions like “Have you ever seen ghost?” and “Ever been shot at?” The Winner, Michelle Himed, won the $100 Gift Card Raffle from ACI!
The Buzz Academy Sessions had some of the most knowledgeable hosts in the appraisal industry. The Buzz Academy Sessions were designed specifically for appraisers to build and polish their business. These sessions were: “Streamline Your Business: Rapid-Fire Tips for Research and Reporting Appraisals” hosted Joshua Walitt of Walitt Solutions, “Building the Million Dollar Appraisal Business” hosted by Blaine Feyen of Real Value Group, “Building a Lifestyle Business” hosted by Roy Meyer of The Appraiser Insider, “Diversifying Your Practice – Inside and Out” hosted by Bryan Reynolds, and “Owning Your Appraisal Business So It Doesn’t Own You” hosted by Dustin Harris. Whether you’re looking to create a lifestyle along with your business or build your own million-dollar company, these sessions are exactly what sets appraisers apart from the competition.
Lenders Live gave you a lender perspective. Our Land Shark Pitches were presented alongside the Lenders Live. The companies represented: Amrock, Appraisal Institute, Bradford Technologies, Clearbox, Computershare, Datamaster, Global DMS, ServiceLink, and ValueLink.
During our Lenders Live sessions, attendees heard from lenders about what they are looking for. Our speakers were Brad Davis, Morgan Stanley; Jeff Rauland, UBS Bank; Wes Costello, Annie Mac; Derek Owings, Prosperity Home Mortgage; Matt Custer of Truist; and James Heaslet, VA. Brad Davis covered The Morgan Stanley criteria for selection of appraisers and covered issues like cancelling assignments after inspection. Jeff Rauland held an open discussion about UBS appraisal guidelines, complex residential assignments, and other topics that attendees wanted more on. All of our lenders presented valuable information to our attendees about their companies.
Appraisers were able to receive the CE credits online. Continuing Education Courses were offered on Saturday, October 3rd. You could choose one of two courses: The first was “National 7 Hour USPAP Update (2020-2021)” by McKissock hosted by Josh Walitt and the other was “Rapid Response: Market Analysis in Volatile Markets” by Appraisal Institute hosted by Mark Ratterman.
