Valuation Expo 2021 at the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas was a smash hit! We didn’t know what to expect for our first in-person event since the beginning of the pandemic, but it turned out to be one of our biggest conferences ever. Valuation Expo provided attendees endless opportunities to learn, network, and prosper. Here is a quick recap of how the show went for those that weren’t able to make it and want to find out what they are missing.
This year we had a few new sessions that we included with any attendee pass. The Business-Building Workshops were designed to help appraisers take their business to the next level. We want to thank Solidifi for sponsoring this session to make it free for all attendees. Experts discussed the topics necessary to transition a single appraiser shop to an appraisal firm. Topics included Marketing through Social Media with Blaine Feyen of Real Value Group; Technology that Transforms with Ernie Durbin of Voxtur Valuation; Legal and Accounting with nationally renowned valuation attorney, Peter Christensen, and Powering Up – Taking it to the Next Level! with Matt Simmons of Maxwell, Hendry & Simmons.
We took full advantage of the afternoon by offering Vendors and Lenders of Valuation Expo. This featured 25 speakers and a full house of attendees crowding in to take notes. This allowed a quick “elevator pitch” style presentation on new products and services in addition to insights from lenders on what they are experiencing with appraisals. It was a great way for attendees to get a quick inside look at the newest technology available.
For those who needed, Valuation Expo offered USPAP sponsored by Appraiser eLearning. Bryan Reynolds, an Appraiser eLearning Partner and the Instructor that made USPAP exciting and interesting. We heard so much feedback about what a great instructor Bryan was and how he made USPAP an exciting class to take.
The Trade Show Opening Reception featured Appraisers Got Talent where the talents of the appraisers was on full display with the back up of the M Street Band! We want to thank Mark Johnson and LRES for bringing the band to the Valuation Expo Trade Show Stage. We had a great time jamming out while attendees took turns joining them onstage. We were blown away by the amazing singers and musicians. Who knew you could be Chief Appraiser and expert Sax player? Or a VP of Valuation Strategy and expert drummer? Congratulations Danny Degalado of Voxtur Valuation and John Holbrook of CoreLogic respectively. Last but not least, Monica Strickland, from Triserv who won the award for best voice. She sang like it was her first calling.
The continuing education (CE) kicked off Thursday morning with the Keynote Panel featuring Lyle Radke with Fannie Mae; Jim Park with the Appraisal Subcommittee; Peter Christensen of Christensen Law Firm; Chris Knight with Opteon, and moderated by Jessica Jenkins-Tome of Valuation Connect. The afternoon session continued with “Survive, Thrive, and Revive Your Business.” This panel discussed how technology, access to data, and process improvements can enhance the appraisal production process and create a more credible report. Our presenters, Phillip King, ServiceLink; Jared Preisler, Datamaster; Scott Rose, Class Valuation; John Holbrook, Black Knight; and Joshua Walitt, Incenter Appraisal Management, all gave their professional insights.
Friday was more trade show and more CE. “The Great Debate – To Inspect or Not Inspect” dove into the debate on who should be inspecting the property. There was a great deal of appraiser interaction as they added to the spirited debate. The presenters included John Brenan, Clear Capital; Jordan Petkovski, Mueller Reports; Bryan Reynolds, Appraiser eLearning; and Matt Simmons, Maxwell, Hendry & Simmons.
Valuation Expo wrapped up with The Modern Appraisal and explored how the appraisal of the future must incorporate meaningful data points, relevant to the lender and investor, to facilitate collateral risk decisioning. The presenters were Joan Trice, Collateral Risk Network; Ernie Durbin, Voxtur Valuation; Ken Dicks, Reggora; Adam Johnston, NewRez LLC, and moderated by Jacob Eland of Appraisal Vision.
We want to take some time to highlight some of our sponsors who helped us put on the show. We want to make sure to start out by thanking Class Valuation our platinum sponsor as well as all of our other sponsors for the show. Anow sponsored our Attendee Bags with some classy totes for everyone, Clear Capital was our lanyard sponsor, and we can’t forget Nationwide Property & Appraisal Services who provided the all important WiFi for all attendees. Valuation Connect sponsored lunch for us on both days. Coffee was sponsored by HomeVision and Metro-West Appraisal Co., LLC. A special thank you to Consolidated Analytics for providing multiple masks for each attendee.
We don’t want to forget one of the best parts about the Valuation Expo Trade Show … the Appraisal Bee. Every year our sponsors give away some amazing prizes to our attendees. See the list below of who left Vegas a big winner.
