An Appraiser’s Thanksgiving

Today, I am grateful for a career which allows me so much freedom. I get to choose my own hours, and I have a lot of control over how busy I want to be. When my children have a piano recital, a gym practice, or a science fair in the middle of the day, I do not have to grovel to a boss to get permission or take a pay cut to attend. If I want to take one (or more) of my kids with me to work, I do not have to wait for “Take Your Kid to Work Day” to do it.

Today, I am grateful for a ‘job’ that I love. I get to peek in people’s closets, know some of the more intimate areas of their home, see how people really live, and I get paid for it. My work is interesting and there is never a dull moment. I live in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. I get to drive through mountains and trees, past rivers and lakes, and witness wildlife and amazing scenery every day. I love technology and get to spend a good deal of my day on a computer or playing with a smartphone, iPad, and laser measuring device. How cool is that?

Today, I am grateful for wonderful employees. I have two of the best assistants the world has ever known. These individuals are fun to be around, respectful, and are really, really good at what they do. They understand that their job is to make the boss look good and they have fun doing it. I have very few complaints and they are quick to change, if change is needed. I also have several contractors whom I call on regularly. I have never met some of them in person, but they live to serve and are a huge asset to me and my company.

Today, I am grateful for the fact that I am able to make a very good living… post HVCC and Dodd-Frank. We are masters of our own destiny. I am thankful that I have been able to reinvent myself and still do what I love and live a decent lifestyle. I am also thankful to be able to share my talents for teaching others on a regular basis, as I crisscross the nation, advising others on how to be more productive, efficient, and make more money.

Today, I am grateful for a wonderful and supportive family, good friends, and associations that are a blessing to enjoy. My wife is the greatest blessing I have in this life. I have four, wonderful and talented children. Most days, they drive me nuts, but I still love them. I have friends all around (both online and in person) who care for me and serve me in so many ways. I learn something from every person I rub shoulders with daily (and I am able to rub shoulders with quite a few). Today, I am grateful for life. I choose to focus on the positive. I choose to love my life. I choose to be a thankful real estate appraiser.
