The appraisal community is filled with dedicated professionals who make a lasting impact, and this year, we asked you—our readers—to help us recognize the very best. The response to our first-ever Buzzy Awards was incredible, with an outpouring of nominations and votes showcasing the passion and commitment within our industry. Today, we are thrilled to announce the winners!

Each of these individuals and organizations has demonstrated excellence, innovation, and leadership in their respective fields. Over the coming months, we will feature in-depth interviews with each winner on our podcast, The Appraisal Buzzcast. But for now, here’s a look at this year’s standout professionals, as shared through nomination submissions.

Appraiser of the Year: Cathy Gilbert Harper

Cathy is deeply involved in educating agents and the public about the appraisal process. She contributes to NAR, is pursuing her real estate license, and moderates the Real Estate Appraiser Forum. Cathy is also active in her community, running a fundraiser called Bikers for Boobs, supporting mammograms.

AMC or Appraisal Firm of the Year: RSDS Appraisal Diversity

RSDS has made remarkable strides in 2024, championing diversity and inclusion in the appraisal industry. They celebrated their 75th certified trainee this year and expanded their team by 70 employees. RSDS is also committed to supporting veterans through the SkillBridge partnership and continues to exceed industry standards and bring new appraisers into the industry.

Lender of the YearDHI Mortgage

Known for its strong emphasis on accuracy and quality, DHI Mortgage aligns perfectly with the values of residential appraisers. The lender fosters a collaborative and supportive working environment, ensuring appraisers’ concerns are addressed and their work is valued. DHI Mortgage’s market presence provides appraisers with a steady stream of assignments, offering financial stability and career growth opportunities.

Instructor of the Year: Peter Christensen

Peter’s expertise makes his classes captivating. His sessions leave students wanting more due to his engaging and insightful instruction.

Software of the Year: A la mode scan to sketch

I love their scan to sketch tool. alamode has a ton of features, doesn’t crash frequently, and connects with tools like Datamaster and Spark. Its mobile app is robust and works well with desktop.

Appraisal Content Creator of the Year: Dustin Harris (The Appraiser Coach)

Dustin helps appraisers grow into business owners, offering practical advice and fostering a positive, supportive community.

Rising Star of the Year: D’Andre Smith

 A former U.S. Air Force Aircraft Technician, D’Andre is RSDS Appraisal Diversity’s first trainee through the SkillBridge program. Balancing his appraisal training with earning a bachelor’s degree, his dedication and leadership make him an inspiration.

Mentor of the YearJeff Bradford

A longtime leader in the appraisal industry, Jeff’s commitment to supporting appraisers and fostering professional growth has been a source of inspiration.
